Trump doubled the tariffs on Canadian metals.

Foreks - U.S. President Donald Trump has raised the planned tariff on all steel and aluminum products coming from Canada to the U.S. to 50% in response to Ontario's imposition of a 25% customs duty on electricity imported to the U.S. from Canada.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump stated that he instructed the Secretary of Commerce to add an additional 25% customs duty on the products that will come into effect tomorrow morning.

Trump wrote, "Additionally, Canada must immediately eliminate the U.S. Countervailing Farmer Tariff, which imposes rates between 250% and 390% on various dairy products. I will soon declare a National Emergency regarding electricity in the threatened area."

Trump also threatened to significantly increase tariffs on cars coming to the U.S. on April 2 if Canada does not similarly reduce other long-standing tariffs imposed by them.
