The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers offered resignation packages to 3% of its civilian workforce.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has begun informing 1,068 employees, who make up about 3% of its civilian workforce, about their eligibility for the job separation program initiated by the Trump administration for federal employees, according to a spokesperson. Gene Pawlik, a spokesperson for the Army Corps, stated via email that these employees hold various positions and work in offices around the world. Unlike some other agencies, the Army Corps is not required to lay off employees on probation.
The majority of personnel in the Army Corps are civilians. The Trump administration's "deferred resignation program" allows these federal employees to continue receiving pay without physically working until September 30. During this period, positions may be reduced or completely eliminated. This financial incentive offered for resignations is part of Trump's strategy to downsize the U.S. government and is available to millions of federal workers.
