The decline in global container freight rates continues.
Foreks - The decline in global container freight rates, which started in mid-January 2025, continued for the 11th consecutive week; prices have reached their lowest level in the last 14 months.
According to the World Container Index prepared by international shipping data and consulting company Drewry, rates decreased by 4% in the week ending March 27. The spot freight rate for a 40-foot container dropped from $2,264 to $2,168, returning to January 2024 levels. Compared to the same week last year, the index is down by 26%, and it is 79% lower than the peak of $10,377 reached in September 2021. The decline in the index was led by the Rotterdam-New York route, which fell by 7%, followed by Shanghai-Los Angeles at 6% and Shanghai-Rotterdam at 4%.
